The 88^th Annual Virginia Open Checker Tournament

Friday and Saturday, September 23rd - 24th, 2005

The Super 8 Motel in Bedford, Virginia

Registration will be handled in the playing room after supper on Thursday (Sept. 22nd) and between 8:00 - 9:00 AM on Friday morning.  Play begins 10:00 AM Friday following a short business meeting.  The entry fee is $15.00.  Any contributions to support the Prize Fund will be appreciated.

As in the past, the tournament will be played under the Three-Move Restriction Style of Play, using the Swiss System of scoring.  There will be 7 rounds at 4 games per round.   We will play 4 rounds Friday, 3 rounds Saturday, and hopefully permit early travel back home.

Room rates are $49.95 plus tax for double beds.  Continental Breakfast and coffee available during the day is included with the rooms. The Golden Corral Restaurant is located beside the motel and offers guest a 10% discount when you present your room key.

 Room Reservations should be made by September 9th, 2005.

 We appreciate Mr. O.W. (Buck) Smith for taking on this task, an Old Dominion Checker Association (ODCA) tradition.  This is their 88^th continuous Annual Virginia Checker Tournament (since 1917 and right through WWII) historically held in Danville, the tournament was moved to the beautiful location of Bedford in 2002.    From the window of the Super 8 Motel there is a great view of Sharp Top Mnt. and the Peaks of Otter, once thought to be the highest in Virginia.
